# Influencer and Creator Partnerships ## Overview Creator marketing succeeds or fails on **selection and brief quality**, not on follower count. A 12,000-follower creator whose audience actually matches the offer routinely outperforms a 400,000-follower generalist, at a tenth of the cost. The two most common failures are paying for reach that does not contain buyers, and briefing so tightly that the content stops sounding like the creator — which removes the only reason the partnership had value. ## When to Use - Sourcing creators for a brand or client - Negotiating rates and contract terms - Writing creator briefs - Setting up UGC-for-ads or whitelisting programs - Measuring partnership performance Don't use for: clipping operations (use `short-form-clipping`) or paid ad account mechanics (use `paid-media-buying`). ## Vetting Follower count is the least informative number available. Check these instead, in order: 1. **Audience geography.** For any local business this is decisive. A creator with 80% out-of-market audience is worthless to a single-location service business regardless of engagement. 2. **Audience demographics vs. the ICP.** Request the analytics screen recording, not a screenshot. 3. **Engagement rate.** Healthy ranges: 3–6% under 10k followers, 2–4% at 10k–100k, 1–3% above 100k. Anomalously high engagement with generic comments indicates pods or bought engagement. 4. **Comment quality.** Real audiences ask specific questions. Strings of emoji and "🔥
