## Steps
1. Follow the procedure in `.engine/operations/tune-policy.md`. In short: show the operator the settings they
can adjust and the current values (`uv run --directory .engine -- python tools/tune.py show <group>`), take
their choice, save it, and prepare it as a pull request they approve. Tell them, in plain words, that
nothing changes until they merge it.
2. If they came here because a check told them a saved setting no longer exists, clear it instead:
`uv run --directory .engine -- python tools/tune.py forget <group> <setting>`. Say why it was retired if
the engine records a reason (the command prints it), and that clearing it changes nothing about how the
engine behaves — the value was already being ignored.
## Notes
This is a command you type to change one of the engine's tuning numbers — for example, how patient its
background monitoring is before it flags something, or how it weighs what to show you first. It never changes
anything on its own: your choice is saved as a pull request you approve, and kept in a place an engine update
won't undo. Settings that keep the engine's safety order are fixed on purpose and can't be changed here.
