How to search a docs-mcp-server (Grounded Docs MCP Server) index well. Use before writing, editing, or debugging code against a library indexed in docs-mcp-server (listed in the project's CLAUDE.md or returned by list_libraries), whenever a search_docs call returns noise or nothing, and before indexing or re-indexing a site with scrape_docs or the CLI.

# Docs Lookup `docs-mcp-server` is hybrid search over documentation text, not a chat assistant. Each query runs as a keyword search (SQLite FTS5, BM25) and an embedding search, and the two rankings are fused by reciprocal rank, with equal weights by default. The keyword half matches the whole query as a phrase, OR each quoted phrase, OR each individual word, and it keeps stop words. Question words such as "how do I make my" therefore match thousands of chunks and push noise into the fused list. Phrase queries the way the docs would, and the right page comes up on the first try. ## Tools and library names Tool names here are bare: `search_docs`, `fetch_url`, `list_libraries`, `find_version`. The MCP client prefixes them with the server name from its config, usually `mcp__docs-mcp-server__search_docs`. The project's CLAUDE.md names the server when it differs. Pass `library` exactly as the project's CLAUDE.md or `list_libraries` spells it. When a library is not listed, call `list_libraries` before falling back elsewhere. A library-not-found error also suggests similar names. ## Choosing `version` - **Library indexed with versions:** pass the version the project actually uses, read from `package.json`, the lockfile, `pyproject.toml`, or the equivalent. Use the installed major as `N.x` (for example `18.x`), or the exact version, which resolves to that version or the nearest older indexed one. Omitting `version` searches the **latest** indexed version, which can be ne
