# After silence, ask about timing. Never say goodbye.
A thread that got no answer on two touches stays open. After 10 days send one short question about timing. After 45 days send one more. Each under 250 characters, one question, no pitch, no booking link. Look at their profile first and name the reason for the silence only when you can see it.
## Why
In our own sending over 30 days, the third touch written as a goodbye ("closing the loop from my side", "last one from me") went out 133 times and got 2 replies (1.5%). In the same window the first touch got 25 replies on 197 (12.7%) and the second 13 on 245 (5.3%). An earlier batch of 27 goodbyes got 0 replies.

- away: ask when they are back
- new job: congratulate, ask if this is relevant in the new role
- launching something: ask when things settle
3. If you see nothing, ask the timing question with no reason. Guessing out loud ("probab
