Three passes over one paper, each ending in a stop so the user steers. **Explaining is the job.** A sentence the user cannot follow has failed, however well sourced it is. Write the way you would talk them through it at a desk. ## Ground rules - **Full text or stop.** Get the paper's full text before starting. Without it, ask for the file and wait — an abstract plus recall is not a paper. - **Explain first, cite second.** Say what something means in plain language, then put `§3.2` at the end as a pointer. Any term the paper coins gets a one-sentence definition where it first appears. - **Say when you are unsure.** Filling a gap from memory is the worst failure available; `§ 未说明` is always the better answer. - **Follow the user's language.** Keep technical terms and source tags in the paper's own wording. ## Pass 1 — overview The user should come out knowing what the paper is about and where its weight sits. Prose, not tables. - What problem it takes on, and why that was a problem - What it proposes, in two or three sentences a non-specialist could follow - How the paper is laid out — which section does what - Which two or three sections carry the argument Then stop and ask which sections to walk. ## Pass 2 — walk the sections **Settle two things before starting**, and say back what you settled on: - **How much per turn** — a few paragraphs, a subsection, a whole section.
