## When to use
- Researching a market, category, company, investor, or technology trend.
- Building TAM/SAM/SOM estimates.
- Comparing competitors or adjacent products.

**Not for:** deep technical investigation with citations (use `research`); choosing/comparing a specific tool or library for a concrete requirement (use `tech-selection`).
## Steps
1. **Hold the research standards.**
- Every important claim needs a source.
- Prefer recent data; call out stale data explicitly.
- Include contrarian evidence and downside cases.
- Translate findings into a decision, not just a summary.
- Separate fact, inference, and recommendation clearly.
2. **Run the relevant research mode.**
**Investor / Fund Diligence**
- Fund size, stage, and typical check sizes.
- Relevant portfolio companies.
- Public thesis and recent activity.
- Reasons the fund is or is not a fit.
- Obvious red flags or mismatches.
**Competitive Analysis**
- Product reality, not marketing copy.
