# Tufte: Visual Thinking and Seeing With Fresh Eyes
## Overview
Tufte's claim in *Seeing With Fresh Eyes* (Graphics Press, 2020) is that visual thinking and analytical thinking are the same cognitive act, not a "creative" track and a "rigorous" track. The shared enemy of both is the self-confirming word — the inherited name or default model accepted without ever looking at the thing itself. The operating rule throughout: do not stop at what a thing is *named*; see what it *does*.
