# Topical study Work under `bible-evidence-grounding`: every verse carries its reference and the tool that produced it, and an empty lookup is reported, not filled in. ## Three lookup tools that sound alike and return different things Choose by what comes back, not by the name: - **`search_topics`** returns **verse collections** — one or more named topics, each with its verse list and the text of each verse. `anxiety` returns 3 topics starting with "Anxiety (10 verses)"; `forgiveness` returns 10 topics including "Sin: Forgiveness of (60 verses)". This is your spine. - **`get_term_definition`** returns **a short plain-language glossary definition** of one term, with the book and passage where it first appears. Pass an exact `term` for the definition, or `search` to list matching terms when you are not sure of the wording. - **`search_easton_dictionary`** returns **a longer encyclopedia article** on the term, with embedded scripture references. Reach for it when the glossary definition is too thin to work with. Then `get_cross_references` to follow a thread from a key verse outward, and `get_commentary` or `get_study_notes` on the two or three passages the topic actually turns on. ## A verse list is not a teaching `search_topics` gives you an index. Indexes are compiled by matching words. They do not know that a verse is a quotation of an opponent, a stage in a narrative that gets reversed, a line of Job's friends that God later rebukes, or poetry doing s
