# Ecommerce Category Page SEO
Category pages carry the money terms. "Running shoes" is worth vastly more than any individual model name, and it's the category page that competes for it.
Most stores treat categories as a grid of products with a title, and then wonder why they only rank for exact product names.
## Why categories matter more than products

## What a category page needs
**Products first.** Never push the grid below a wall of text. The content goes underneath, or split into a short useful intro and a longer section below.
**A genuinely useful intro**, two or three sentences that help someone choose, not a keyword paragraph. "Road, trail or gym — the difference is the sole and the cushioning, and it matters more than the brand" earns its place. "Welcome to our extensive range of quality running shoes" does not.
