# Use Veo by mode, not by name alone
Read `video-provider-capabilities`, `video-cinematography`, and exactly one
provider skill: `fal-ai` for `fal-ai/veo...` routes or `google-ai` for Gemini
API/Vertex. Then read the official docs for the exact API surface:
- fal Veo 3.1 Lite image-to-video:
- fal Veo 3.1 image-to-video:
- Gemini API: `https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/video`
- Vertex first/last frames:
- Vertex prompt guide:
Do not combine fal, Gemini, or Vertex model IDs and request shapes. Resolve the
current model variant, availability, mode, limits, field nesting, and price on
the surface actually configured for the production.
## Select one generation mode
- Use text-to-video for an unanchored new shot.
- Use an initial image for approved opening composition and image animation.
- Use first plus last frame for a controlled interpolation whose end state is
designed in advance. A last frame is not a general style reference.
- Use reference images when the live Veo variant supports them and preserving a
person, character, product, or visual asset matters. Label every reference.
- Use extension only for a source accepted by the current extension cont
