# Email Copy — Subject Lines and Body Cadence (when to send) is marketing's job; this skill handles **the sentences inside**. Fail the subject line and the body never gets read. ## Subject Lines - **Under 9 words / 40 characters** (mobile truncation). Numbers, second person ("your"), and open questions rank highest on opens. - Curiosity must come with a promise: "The number that changed in 2 weeks" reads as clickbait. - A/B test only the subject line — one variable. A winner under 500 sends is meaningless. - Banned: ALL CAPS, excess "!", emoji flooding, repeating "free" alone. ## Preview Text The remaining 35 characters after the subject. Not a repeat — a **supplement** ("...and 3 reasons why"). If the subject is a question, the preview is the first word of the answer. ## Body - **One email, one topic, one CTA.** Add a second link and clicks halve. - Three-line scan structure: 1-line summary (a lead-back) + 2–4 body sentences + 1 CTA button. - Only one personalization token ({name} is the exception — stay quiet elsewhere). A leaked token kills trust instantly. - Write at an upper-elementary reading level. Cut abstract nouns (synergy, paradigm) and legalese ("it is important that…"). - Signature = person's name + one-line title. No tacking on company marketing copy. ## Send Hygiene At most one body image; link text must describe the destination ("click here" is banned). Default to the plain-text version and treat HTML as optional — in personalized, relationship-based
