# Prism Echo - Extract
Most client language is already written down somewhere. It is in the thank-you email
nobody kept, the review that was read once, the note at the bottom of a call summary,
the message that said why they nearly did not buy. This skill goes and gets it.
Extract is the answer to the hardest problem in voice of client work: capture never
happens, because it depends on someone remembering. Nothing here depends on memory.
## Mode check (do this first, always)
Read `prism-config.txt`.
**Found - CONNECTED mode.** The brain folder comes from `PRISM_BRAIN_DIR`; every `prism/...` path below is relative to it. If `PRISM_BRAIN_DIR` is missing or points to a folder that is not there, do not guess and do not write: say the brain path is broken, name what was read, and treat this session as standalone. In standalone mode those paths are relative to the connected folder. Read `prism/icp.md` if it exists, to recognise who counts as a client. If `prism/voc/echo-config.txt` exists and says `ECHO_MODE=standalone`, update it to `ECHO_MODE=connected` and tell the founder in one line: "Echo is now connected to your Prism brain."
**Not found - STANDALONE mode.** Do not stop. Extract works fully without the brain. Ask who the founder's clients are only if it is not obvious from the material in front of you, and ask once.
## First run
"Extract voc" is often a founder's very first words to Echo, so this skill must be able
to set itself up. Do not hand off and do not stall.
