# otel-collector (Codex bridge) > **Requires the otel-as-code repo.** The `commands/` / `skills/` / `agents/` files referenced below live there — if they're not present in your workspace, stop and tell the user to add the repo (see AGENTS.md). Follow the canonical procedure in this repo — it is the single source of truth: 1. Read `commands/otel-collector.md` (repo root) and execute its steps. 2. Apply `skills/collector-topology/SKILL.md` for pipeline topology, tail-sampling, and the cardinality-guardrail patterns. Args: `$ARGUMENTS` (e.g. `gateway`, `--experimental`, `--public`, `--force`, `--confirm-remove-auth`; default mode is `agent`). Codex note: `.codex/hooks.json` enforces write-guard here — a denied overwrite of an existing `otelcol-agent.yaml` / `otelcol-gateway.yaml` means regenerate deliberately. `--public` adds receiver auth (`bearertokenauth`); `--force` alone refuses to remove existing auth — pair it with `--confirm-remove-auth` to intentionally downgrade, or `--public` to keep it.
