# Negotiation Prep Turn "I have to negotiate" into a written plan with numbers and sentences to say out loud. ## Output structure 1. **My position** — what I want (target), what I'd settle for, and my walk-away point. - Usually: target 10-20% above reachable, settle = realistic, walk-away = below which the deal is not worth it. 2. **Their position** — what they want, what they fear, what constraints they likely have. 3. **BATNA** — my best alternative if we don't agree. If there is none, that is the first problem to fix. 4. **ZOPA** — the likely range where a deal is possible. 5. **Trades, not concessions** — table: | If they give | I give | |---|---| Never concede without getting something back. 6. **Scripts** — exact sentences for: - the opening anchor, - the first push-back, - the silence after their number, - the "no" and how to keep the door open. ## Rules - **Anchor first** when you have more information; let them anchor when you don't. - Prices are stated once, then justified with value — not defended with discounts. - Never reveal the walk-away number. - Silence is a tool: after they speak a number, wait. - Soft words, firm position: "I understand" + repeated ask, never "okay, fine". ## Output Write it as a one-page brief the user can read 5 minutes before the meeting.
