# Backlog Prioritization Strategy
## What this does
Reads a backlog, a list of work items, and a written strategy document, and
returns the backlog ranked against that strategy. Every ranked item names
the exact passage in the strategy document behind its position, quoted, not
paraphrased. An item the strategy document doesn't address is flagged as
unscored instead of being ranked or force-fit into a plausible-sounding spot.
This is not a RICE or ICE calculator. It assigns no numeric framework score
that the strategy document itself doesn't state. The ranking signal is the
strategy document's own stated priorities, nothing else, so a product
builder can defend every position in a room by pointing at the line that
justifies it.
## When to use it
Use this when you have a backlog (a feature list, a roadmap folder, a set of
proposed initiatives) and a written strategy document (a mission statement,
a thesis, a stated set of company or product priorities), and you want the
backlog ordered by how well each item serves that strategy, with every
position defensible by citation.
This is not a tool for scoring a backlog with no strategy document supplied.
Without a strategy doc there is nothing to rank against, and the skill says
so instead of inventing a generic framework score. It is also not a
strategy-writing tool: it reads a strategy someone already wrote, it does
not draft one.
