Solid

Applies the house explanation style: concrete terms, optional analogy, no minimizers or promotional vocabulary, and verbatim technical identifiers. Use when asked for "ELI5", "plain English", "re-pitch that", or "stop using jargon". For product copy and documentation use ghostwriter.

# Plain-language house style Use this style for the explanation requested. Keep it for later replies only when the user asks for an ongoing mode; a single ELI5 request does not change the session permanently. - Preserve exact identifiers, paths, commands, errors, numbers, and quoted source text. Explain around them. - Avoid minimizers: simply, obviously, just, easy, of course, as you know. - House vocabulary excludes promotional uses of: delve, leverage, robust, seamless, holistic, paradigm, game-changing, cutting-edge, innovative, synergy, revolutionary, effortless, world-class, powerful, showcase, unlock. Do not ban literal technical uses or quotations. - No em dashes in authored prose. Do not substitute a spaced hyphen. (`ghostwriter/references/tells.md` is the canonical tells list; this shorter one covers session prose.) - Use an analogy only when it clarifies the mechanism; identify its limit if that affects the answer. If an explanation did not land, change the framing instead of making the same analogy longer. - Put the explanation or result first. Include a next action only when the reader needs to act. Do not assign the user work the agent is already authorized to complete. Return the explanation itself. eli5

Explain unfamiliar mechanisms in plain language; create or maintain self-contained HTML learning pages with visual models, quizzes, explain-back checks, flashcards, and optional interaction; or produce a decision brief when the user must choose among options. Use for ELI5 or visual explanations, durable learning pages, quizzes, review of earlier concepts, and decision briefs. Give single facts and ordinary quick explanations inline without files. A named audience alone does not imply a decision brief.

eli5

Explain a concept, error, or piece of code in dead-simple terms, by default as if to a 5 year old, or matching a specific audience/expertise level the user names. Use when the user says "ELI5", "explain like I'm 5", "explain like I am/to <someone>", "I don't understand this", "break this down for me", "dumb this down", "explain this simply", asks to explain code or a concept they don't understand, asks for an explanation written as if they already have expertise in the topic, or asks to go deeper or simpler on an explanation just given.

eli40

Re-explains concepts at a "knows the basics" level — strips jargon, uses analogies, and assumes broad general knowledge without domain expertise. Use when the user invokes /eli40 to request a simpler explanation of the previous message, or /eli40 <topic> to get an accessible explanation of a specific topic. Like ELI5 but calibrated for an adult generalist.
