Other Foreman layers and the catalog are in `../../content/`, relative to this SKILL.md. # Organizational Ambidexterity Consider what it means to be physically ambidextrous: the ability to write fluently with both hands, each performing distinct tasks without compromising the other. Most people cannot do it. Most organizations cannot do it either -- and the organizational version is far more consequential. Ambidexterity in a corporate context means simultaneously excelling at exploiting existing capabilities for current profit and exploring new opportunities for future growth. The concept, formalized by scholars Charles O'Reilly and Michael Tushman, addresses perhaps the deepest tension in business strategy: how to be disciplined and creative at the same time, in the same company, without one impulse strangling the other. The reason this matters is not abstract. The business landscape is littered with companies that mastered exploitation -- Kodak, Blockbuster, Nokia -- and failed catastrophically because they could not explore. Conversely, companies that explore without exploiting burn cash with no viable business model underneath.
